It is characterised by a mix of urban and rural areas and the principal town of Burton upon Trent dominates the housing and employment provision, supported by the smaller market town of Uttoxeter.
The area has a history of traditional industries focused around manufacturing and agricultural sectors, with Burton upon Trent best known for its brewing heritage. Today brewing continues to thrive in Burton with small, independent breweries alongside such national institutions as Marston’s.
